Scripture Reading: Psalm 8
Memory Verse: “O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
Prayer:
Holy God who made us and loves us,
we thank you for the beauty of your creation.
We thank you for . . .
[take turns sharing some part of creation for which you are especially grateful].
We know that you want us to help take care of creation.
Please help us make good choices that will protect your beautiful world.
We proclaim with all creation:
O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Amen
Suggested Activity:
Talk as a family about the things you already do to help take care of the earth. Decide together on one extra thing you can do this week. (You can find some suggestions here.)
Spiritual Practice: Paying Attention
Go for a walk and take along a camera and/or a sketchbook and colored pencils. Notice the beautiful things that you see. Photograph or draw something that is particularly beautiful–maybe something you hadn’t noticed before.
Each time you notice something beautiful, say a prayer of thanks to God. You might even want to whisper–or shout–the memory verse: “O Lord, our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
Please consider sharing your photographs and/or drawings with us at Practicing Families. You can post them on our Facebook page or email them to PracticingFamilies at gmail dot com.
