A Prayer and a Poem

hope closeup

The editors over here at Practicing Families are going to have a busy week.  Joanna is moving.  Jill is traveling.  Andrew is busy in his corner of the West Coast world.

We don’t have a post today, really, just a request for prayer and a poem that I  have been reflecting upon lately.

The request for prayer…

Today, I celebrate with joy the tenth birthday of my daughter, while I also board a plane with a heavy (but hopeful) heart as I leave to support my dear friend as she fights for her child.  Will you please pray with me for justice, for peace, and for courage?

And the poem…

“Praying”

It doesn’t have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeds in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones; just
pay attention, then patch

a few words together and don’t try
to make them elaborate, this isn’t
a contest but the doorway

into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
